Light transmission is the percentage of available light that passes through the scope and reaches your eye. More transmission, all else being equal, means a brighter image. Less transmission means less light reaches your eye. But here is the counter truth: brightness alone does not tell you what you can actually see, especially in low light.

Light transmission is one part of how a scope manages light. Overall image quality also depends on glass quality, anti-reflective lens coatings, optical design, the number of air-to-glass surfaces, and control of internal reflections and stray light. Every lens surface reflects away a small amount of light. A scope has many surfaces, so those small losses compound. Better coatings mean less loss at each surface, which is why coating quality quietly matters more than most customers ever hear.
There is no universal industry standard for measuring light transmission. Brands may measure different wavelengths (color ranges), different points in the scope, and best-case versus average performance. So "92% vs 95%" often does not mean what customers think it does. Two honest manufacturers can publish numbers that cannot be compared to each other.
What matters more than the number: low-light visibility (dawn and dusk performance), contrast (separating the target from the background), color accuracy, and glare control. A scope can post a high transmission figure and still look worse in real use, because a flat, washed-out image shows you light without showing you detail.

Don't tell. Let them decide. A conclusion the customer reaches with their own eyes cannot be argued away by a spec sheet, a forum thread, or a buddy at the range.
